PvP advice

Carry the right tools. Have the right equipmunk. Use those siege-merchants! If you are a new player and don’t yet have the Alliance Points (AP) or gold to purchase equipment, speak up! Until you’re more comfortable with the way things work- ask a guild-mate for a half-stack of repair kits. Most of our members are well-equipped and happy to share. We want you to “get good” at whatever parts of this game are the most fun for you. As your role on the battlefield evolves over your first few runs, you will understand the importance of being prepared. If you are a new player or new to the guild, PLEASE FOLLOW THE CROWN closely and listen carefully to instructions during combat. One person’s mistake can give away a whole team’s position in some circumstances. Again, we are all here to have fun and are usually pretty casual but if we are making an ambitious push towards a particular objective we must be able to count on each other and follow directions.

Some further, helpful tips about PvP: For new players, you may find certain elements of this game to be counterintuitive or challenging. Here are some quick tips for staying alive and being a good team-member during

PvP: Mounts and stealth

You should NOT be on your horse until everyone mounts-up. If an enemy attacks you while you are mounted, you are effectively unable to respond in time to defend yourself. This puts our group at a major disadvantage and has caused groups to wipe. In addition, you are taller when mounted and therefore more visible from a distance. Stay in stealth if we’re convening to move-out somewhere. Generally, stay in stealth (as best you can within the constraints of your stamina-resource) unless we are in our own keep and out of combat. This is VERY important for top-side PvP, but even more crucial for Imperial City and the IC Sewers.

Don’t hit the door!

Aside from when we are sieging the “front-door” or main entrance to the keep, hitting any postern doors with siege weapons does NO DAMAGE at all. You must aim for the wall around the door or the stairs. Listen to instructions from the crown on which part of the wall you should be aiming at. Again, this is true of all postern-doors or side-doors. The main doors (which you can use to enter a keep while still mounted) DO take siege damage, but no others.

Resources & walls

We may not always opt to take a resource before sieging the keep. If a resource is taken, it alerts the enemy to our presence and may encourage the arrival of enemy reinforcements before we are able to “flag” the keep (to get a wall below 50% health/strength). note: flagging the keep also cuts off transit to that keep, meaning that the enemy must then ride to get there.

Sometimes we may want to take down the tower at a resource without taking the resource. This is why you may hear the crown saying things like “stay off the flag” even though we are killing the NPC guards. If we allow the resource to flip and become yellow, we can no longer do damage to the structure with siege-equipment.

The importance of siege

There is a hierarchy of the damage that different pieces of siege equipment do and each is specialized for a particular target (walls, doors, counter-siege, personnel, etc.) Try to get familiar with these differences and you will be more successful. If someone can put down a cold-fire trebuchet and you’ve already occupied the only physical space available for siege with a standard ballista, you may be costing us valuable DPS (damage per second) against the enemy. That difference can determine the outcome of a battle. If you are new to PvP, please donate cold-fire siege to more experienced players. We will be able to keep those repaired and operable and maybe even do far more damage depending on what sets we are wearing. Practice by using the siege-engines that are cheap and easy for us to replace. We can keep you stocked on siege (ballistas, trebuchets, fire, ice, oils, catapults) but the cold-fire/cold-stone pieces can only be obtained from Dolmens.

When we do dolmen/skyshard runs in Cyrodiil, we do hope you will join us! These outings are a great chance to collect plenty of Cyrodiil-only items as well as gold, AP, sky shards, etc. We just ask that any cold-fire/cold-stone siege gear you obtain from these runs is donated to the guild for Anthem’s use in PvP battle. Since these pieces of siege do massive damage and are difficult to replace, it’s best to leave them for experienced players to use. When you are doing dolmen runs with us and can effectively run three trebuchets simultaneously, you will be encouraged to use the cold-siege.

If you don’t know what to do during a siege and are REALLY uncomfortable running your own trebuchet or ballista because you’re a brand new player, help support our siege-line by repairing siege for those running multiple pieces of siege equipment. Please buy a full-stack of siegerepair-kits from a siege-merchant and use them to keep our gear at full-health. You will be expected to run siege (we all do it), so please get over this hesitation quickly. A fighter unable to siege prevents us from flagging a keep quickly, which can cause us to wipe if the enemy has time to respond.

Wait for the tick

Our primary goal is usually to get AP (Alliance Points)! So even though we may have the enemy on the run when we are defending a keep and it may make strategic sense to chase them in order to prevent them from taking a resource or regrouping, we usually will choose to stay on the keep grounds and receive “the tick” (or the points that are given for successful defensive or offensive fighting). These points are only awarded if certain criteria are met: NPC’s must have interacted with the enemy or siege must be used and a time-interval must pass without combat taking place on the grounds. This is why you will often find us just hanging around for a few minutes after an intense battle.

Food/health buffs, potions, poisons

You MUST eat food! Yes, pizza and beer are good to have on-hand when you’re gaming, but you have to eat imaginary food in-game to increase your health, magic, and/or stamina. Food usually lasts a given amount of time and you can unlock passive abilities to make it last up to 2-hours. These are worthwhile passives whether you PvP or PvE because the most effective food-type is not necessarily easy to acquire until you are a master provisioner. Even then, it is cheaper and safer to only have to eat your food-buff once every two-hours instead of every 35 minutes.

If you don’t have any food buffs active while we are working towards a common goal, others will be able to see with the use of add-ons. Please don’t be afraid to ask for some food so that you have the max resources possible at all times. If you have a newer character, it is possible that nobody will have food at that level to give you. It should be your responsibility to be buffed with the appropriate level food at all times. Please also unlock the skill-point provisioning passives that grant you additional efficacy in your use of food. I assure you, you will be glad that you did. You should have a few stacks of potions quick-slotted to restore your commonly used resources (mag., stam., health) as well as some poisons on hand to equip to your weapons.

Specific PvP strategies

During battle, you will hear phrases such as “50/50”, “rope-a-dope”, “tobasco-sauce-lube”, “silent-wood”, etc. Each of these refers to a coordinated technique meant to put our enemies at a disadvantage.

To “50/50” a keep means to fire on select spots of both the outer and inner keep a the same time. The purpose of this strategy is to reduce the amount of time it will take us to get through the inner-wall once the outer-wall is down. By focusing fire on both walls, it will reduce the time that the enemy has to respond and counter our attack. Ideally, by the time they realize that the keep has ben flagged and they ride out to attack us we will already have taken down the inner wall too. This means that we should only have to claim the keep by standing on the flags and then repair the walls. Having the keep walls up and NPC guards to defend will make it infinitely easier to repel an enemy counter-attack.

For the meaning of other strategies, please pay attention in discord and follow crown.

About Anthem & Applying

Anthem started off as a small Aldmeri Dominion focused pvp guild running small organised events and slowly grew into a cross faction alliance guild that centres itself around trials, dungeons, pvp events of all three factions & trading.

We’re proud to say we do a little bit of everything but still keep our core focus on hard end game pve content such as vet trials as well as organised AD pvp and we’re accepting of everyone regardless of your experience, background or knowledge.

If you think you’d like like to apply to our little family on eso, then feel free to send an in game mail to any of the officers or message them in game to find out more.

If you’re just here to browse, then feel free to take advantage of our guides section, written by some of our top members with years of experience on eso.
